29 youths accepted the the Ship for Southeast Asian Youth
Programme invitation, and will be boarding the Nippon Maru.
The youths had presented a concert and exhibition yesterday night,
which will be shown on the ship to the other countries
In this year, the Nippon Maru is not arriving in Singapore. It will leave
from Port Kelang, Malaysia and travel to Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, Philippines before stopping at Tokyo,
Japan.
The National Youth Concil specially arranged this concert to let the families
of the participanting youths and public to enjoy this spectacle.
Comprising Malay, Indian, Chinese dances; nostalgic clips of Singapore
history and harmonious living, this "Uniquely Singapore" concert showcased our multi-racial, multi-cultural past
and present, lively presenting Singapore's unique cultural background.
The Ship for South East Asia Youth Programme was started in 1974,
this year is its 32nd year. There are approximately 300 youths aged 18-30 from Asia and Japan invited onto the Nippon Maru
to undergo mutual cultural understanding.
In this 42 day trip, our youths will be living together, interacting
with each other, experiencing the different cultures, as well as strengthen the the understanding and friendship
of the countries.
